Capital City GoGo | Campaign Development D.C.'s G League Team Paying Homage to Go-Go Music & Culture
Following our campaign for the Washington Wizards, we were tasked with creating an introductory campaign for their newly established development team, the Capital City Go-Go.
This team played out of a brand new sports and entertainment area built in the heart of the 8th ward of Washington D.C. To pay homage to the city’s urban history, they settled on naming the team the Capital City Go-go.
We ran with that and were careful to do what we could to combat the negative feelings towards gentrification and corporate development that were at play all over the city, especially following a 2019 incident where a city landmark, known for playing Go-go for 24 years was forced to turn off its music due to a complaint from a resident of a neighboring luxury high-rise development.
We connected with the Globe and researched the number of letter-pressed posters that defined an era of traveling concerts and event announcements including the iconic, James Brown. We even made our own poster using the original letterpress!
With this campaign, we brought Chocolate City to the forefront. Our goal was to show respect for the cities defining culture, stand in solidarity, and invite the community to support the team.
